1. This is not an official warning service

Naamche Notify is operated by Naamche Labs, a private research lab. It is nota government service and does not replace one. Nepal's official disaster authority is the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), and the official hydrological and meteorological authority is the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM). When their instructions and ours differ, follow theirs.

2. Alerts may be late, wrong, or absent

You are agreeing that you understand and accept all of the following:

• An alert may never arrive. Mobile networks fail, power fails, our servers can fail, and the government data feeds we depend on can go offline — especially during a large disaster, which is exactly when you need them.
• An alert may arrive too late to act on. We can only detect a flood once it has passed a gauge inside Nepal. A surge starting across the border, as the August 2026 Bhotekoshi flood did, may reach you with very little warning or none.
• An alert may be a false alarm. Sensors stick, spike, and get washed away. We try hard to suppress false alarms, and that same caution means we will sometimes stay silent when we should have spoken.
• Arrival time estimates are estimates.Any "about N minutes" figure is calculated from distance and typical flood-wave speed. Real rivers do not read the arithmetic. Never wait for the estimated time before moving.

Never delay evacuating because you have not received an alert from us. If you see or hear rising water, move to high ground immediately.

3. What we send, and when

• Watch — shown on our public board only. Nothing is sent to you.
• Advisory — an SMS. Your phone will not ring.
• Alarm — an SMS and an automated voice call in Nepali.

We cap outbound volume per district per day so that a noisy sensor cannot flood you with calls. We will not use your number for marketing, and we will never sell it.

4. Your consent

You choose each channel separately — SMS, voice call, email — and you may pick the language for each. Ticking the consent box means you are asking us to contact you on the channels you selected, at the number or address you supplied. You confirm that the phone number and email address you entered are yours, or that you have permission from the person they belong to.

Automated voice calls to a number whose owner did not consent may breach Nepal Telecommunications Authority rules. Do not register someone else's number without asking them.

5. Leaving

You can remove yourself at any time from the Notify page, and every SMS we send tells you how. Removal takes effect immediately. We keep a record that the number opted out, so that we do not contact it again by mistake.

6. What we store

• Your name, and the phone number or email address you gave us.
• Your district, and optionally municipality, ward, and village — used only to decide whether an alert applies to you.
• Your channel and language choices.
• The version of these terms you accepted, and when.
• A one-way salted hash of your IP address, used to stop abuse of the sign-up form. We do not store the address itself.
• A record of each alert we attempted to send you and whether it was delivered.

We do not track you across the web, we run no advertising, and we do not share this data with third parties, except that your phone number is necessarily passed to our telephony provider (TingTing, Kathmandu) in order to place the call or send the SMS, and your email address to our email provider, at the moment of sending.

7. Cost

Notify is free to you. Your mobile operator may charge you nothing to receive an SMS or a call; check with them if you are unsure. We pay the sending cost.

8. No liability

Naamche Labs provides this service at no charge and on a best-effort basis, with no warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Naamche Labs is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from an alert that was late, inaccurate, or never delivered, or from any action or inaction taken on the basis of one. Your safety decisions remain yours, guided by official authorities and your own judgement.

9. Changes

If these terms change materially we will ask you to accept the new version before continuing to send you alerts. Consent is recorded against a specific version.
